Out of the Box review Arlington Arts

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Arlington Arts to watch “Out of the Box”  Created and performed by: Darryl J. Carrington

Darryl J. Carrington’s Out of the Box is a one-man show that engages both children and adults. Immersive, fun, and inclusive for all, this clever performance combines nonverbal clowning with playful audience interaction and smart use of technology—such as perfectly timed musical cues—to create an experience that feels both polished and spontaneous.

Perfect for children aged 4 and above, the show is full of surprises that kept the young audience giggling and wide-eyed. Yet, as an adult, I found myself thoroughly entertained too, especially when I was invited to take part! Carrington’s energy, creativity, and skill in wordless storytelling make the show not just enjoyable but memorable for every age group.

What sets Out of the Box apart is its inventive approach (pun absolutely intended). Carrington’s “out of the box” thinking brings the entire audience together, making everyone feel part of the magic. His talent as a performer shines through every moment, blending classic clowning charm with a modern twist.

This show is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and I have no doubt it will be as well-received there as it was today. My final note? Toothbrushes galore! It’s a quirky, clever, and thoroughly delightful performance well worth seeing
