Blog post written by Sabrina, owner of Early Daze Hampers
I’m Sabrina and I started Early Daze in 2025 after being made redundant from my corporate job whilst on maternity leave with my second daughter (yes, that’s legal and happens to roughly 74,000 women a year according to research by Pregnant then Screwed. But I digress).
When my first daughter was born in 2021, I’ll be honest, I felt quite prepared for her. What I wasn’t prepared for was me. I was so naïve to the recovery process. I didn’t know I might have stitches and wouldn’t be able to sit comfortably, I would bleed a lot, my body would be so physically exhausted from 52 hours (yes, you read that right) of labour. 10 days postpartum I came out, head to toe, in hives from sheer exhaustion.
So, when friends and relatives came to visit it was impossible not to notice the overwhelming volume of gifts for the baby. Now please don’t think me ungrateful, there were beautiful items and all meant with love. However, I’d already bought things for her. What I hadn’t bought were things for me. For my well-being. That was the point at which I decided my next friend to have a baby I would purchase a postpartum gift box. Full of things she really needed to support her
physical and mental recovery. But it didn’t exist. There were gift boxes with socks, candles, soft toys (for the baby!), bath salts. All gorgeous and well-meaning – but not the things she actually needed, or even had the time to use. I didn’t even have a bath where I was living at the time!
So that’s when Early Daze Hampers was born. Initially just an idea, then old parcel boxes filled with useful items whenever friends had a baby. It took me being made redundant to finally invest in it as a business. I conducted some market research on items that new parents found genuinely useful, I tested products on friends and, over time, purchased stock and worked with one of my best friends to create my logo and my stunning keepsake hamper boxes. They include illustrations of the various feeding positions because, honestly, I didn’t even realise there was more than one until long after I’d had my first daughter. And, a little insider scoop, she created a prominent E and Z on my logo as they are the initials of my two girls (now 4YO and 2YO).
Early Daze Hampers are filled with the genuine essentials:
A water bottle, to keep hydrated, a dimmable night light for those middle-of-the-night feeds or nappy changes, nipple cream, reusable breast pads, vaginal or caesarean relief pads, the list goes on.
Because, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, she doesn’t need another Jellycat bunny. I’ve created pre-filled hampers, a build your own option or digital gift vouchers. And I’m always on the lookout for new items that help postpartum recovery so I can include them in future hampers.
Not long after launching the business, I realised I wanted to do more for postpartum. For me, it was an incredibly lonely time, filled with far too many Google searches or Instagram scrolls with conflicting tips and tricks that might explain why I was finding this hard or get me a few extra hours of sleep. But what I found was an overwhelming amount of information out there and not all of it is in your best interest or the best interest of baby.
And so, I launched Early Daze Coffee Mornings. Every Wednesday morning at The Swan in Streatley and I work with a range of different local experts who can help with breastfeeding, maternal mental health, pelvic health, sleep and more. It’s set up for new parents with newborns up to 6 months old. You can book, or register your interest, via my website.
I am so proud of Early Daze. Of what it means to be a Mum. To champion postpartum recovery in a way I never thought I’d be able to. And I would never have had the opportunity if it wasn’t for my redundancy – so every cloud, I guess.
