Amber Parker-Wilson is a Newborn, Family & Day in the Life Photographer based in Newbury (although she will travel to capture your special memories).
Amber tells us more about herself, her photography business and what you can expect when you book a session with her.
“I trained as a paediatric nurse in the USA and worked as a paediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant nurse in San Francisco for 10 years. I moved to the UK when I married my wife and worked on Harley street in London until the birth of my first son in 2015. I have always loved photography and have had a camera in my hand since I was a young girl. After my son was born, I took a few photography courses so I could take better photos of him, and from there I didn’t stop! I continued to take courses and develop my skills. I now have two young boys and am so excited to be able to share my passion with all of you and capture moments that you never want to forget. I absolutely love to capture the spirit and personality that children exude and thanks to all my years working in a stressful hospital setting, I really know how to make children feel at ease in situations where they might be quite shy, like a stranger taking their photo! There is nothing I love more than going home after a shoot and seeing all the gorgeous images I was able to capture. I have been taking photos of Newbury families since July 2021 and am so excited to document many more families in Newbury and beyond in the coming years.
I offer several different types of sessions:
Newborn Photos
These are taken in the comfort of your home, documenting those incredible first moments with your new addition. These sessions run at the pace of your baby, they may need some extra time to settle, feed, get changed, or just have a cuddle, these moments offer special opportunities to capture what life with a newborn is truly like. I will take the time to document all the little details of your new baby, photos on their own, and photos as a family. If you have other children, we will get them involved as well and capture the budding relationship between siblings. There will not be any rushing around or watching the clock, just going at your speed.
Childhood and Family Photos
These are just that, photos of your children! You can choose if you would like them in your home, or if you would like to meet at an outdoor location. I will spend some time playing and talking with your kids so they feel comfortable with me and so they will show me all their personality during the shoot. There will be lots of photos of them being them, and the opportunity to take some posed photos as well. Family photo shoots are very similar to the childhood sessions, they just include the parents as well. I document the interactions between family members and try to capture those intimate moments when you are just together, laughing, playing, cuddling, and just being together. I can offer suggestions on activities to do together if you are feeling a bit stuck, or I can just capture your family as it comes organically. There will also be the opportunity for gently posed photos as well.
A Day in the Life
Many of you are probably wondering what that means? Well, it is all about capturing your life as you live it. I will come into your home for an agreed amount of time and I will document what makes your family unique. These sessions are ideal for the person who is always behind the lens, never in the photos (unless it is a selfie or an awkward snap from someone across the room), who wants to show their kids, yes I was there too! The times when you are preparing a snack with a baby on your hip and a toddler racing cars around your feet; reading a book on the sofa while your cup of tea goes cold on the side; kissing the ouch away; taking a walk, those are the everyday moments that you want to remember forever, but that are rarely captured, until now! I will of course provide these sessions for the whole family as well.
I will capture your family in a relaxed and authentic way. I don’t use fancy props or studios, I want you to look back on your photos and remember the setting as well as the people. I have 20 years of experience working with children which really helps to be able to engage with them and capture their true spirit and personality. I love providing you with tangible memories that you can hold onto forever.”
