May-June Half Term 2022 in West Berkshire – What's On for Children and Familiies

It feels like we’ve just had the Easter holidays but the half term break is fast approaching! If you’re looking for things to help keep the children occupied, we’ve got you covered. Check out our round-up of events & activities in the area below. 

Of course it’s the Queen’s Jubilee Platinum Jubilee this year with lots of celebrations and events to mark the occasion taking place. These are listed below but if you would just like to see the Jubilee events, click here.

Cobbs Play Barn & Farm Shop

Cobbs I-spy Farm Trail

Open from Monday 30 May – Sunday 5 June – FREE ENTRY

Pick up a map from Cobbs Play Barn, head up to the farm and follow the I-spy trail. Once you’ve found all the clues head back to the Play Barn to collect a treat reward.

Crown Making

Monday 30 May – Sunday 5 June 10am-4pm

Enjoy a fun and relaxed create & play session in the Play Barn. In honour of the Queen’s Jubilee, children can decorate their own crown. £5 per child, this includes: 1 cardboard crown to decorate & all materials, chocolate coin and squash.

Weekly classes

Boogie Mites, Yabba Dance & WIKIDS all run regular weekly classes at the Play Barn. More details can be found on the Play Barn website. Dream Berries Pop-Up at Brown Paper Loves, Newbury

Shaw House

Antiques & Brocante Fair – Sunday 29 May 10am-4pm

A French style Brocante market with antiques, bric-a-brac, vinyl records and more. A free event with no need to book. More details can be found on the Facebook event.

Shaw House Illuminations – 31 May – 5 June from 9.30pm 

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, Shaw House will be illuminated in red, white and blue every evening from 9.30pm. On Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June, you will be able to explore inside the house and refreshments will be available to purchase from the cafe.

Family Activity Morning: Beautiful Butterflies – Wednesday 1 June 10am-12.45pm

Decorate a wooden butterfly. Aimed at 7-11 year olds but older and younger children are welcome.

A Royal Visit from Beauty and her Prince – Friday 3 June 11am-2.40pm

Messy Museum Morning: Red, White and Blue! – Thursday 2 June 10am-12.45pm

Decorate a ceramic item ready for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Aimed at 7-11 year olds but older and younger children are welcome.

The Base, Greenham

Create Your Own Scribble Monster T-Shirt – Sunday 29 May 10am

Newbury Artisan Market

Sunday 29 May 10am-4pm

Newbury’s Artsian Market takes place on the last Sunday of each month, featuring food & drink, clothes, jewellery and more.

Community Beacon Lighting Event

Thursday 2 June at 7pm, Victoria Park, Newbury

A community beacon lighting event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There will be entertainment, food and a children’s fun fair (a charge will apply for funfair rides). A free event. More information can be found here.

Glow Tots Sensory

Free flow, child led sessions where children play and explore using a range of educational sensory equipment and toys including sounds, bubbles, textures and lights.

Sessions are taking place during half term week in Burghfield and Upper Basildon.

Bucklebury Farm

Jubilee Farm Festival – Thursday 2 – Sunday 5 June

Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Bucklebury Farm. There will be circus performers, music, arts & crafts and more, as well as the usual farm activities. Pre-booking is essential. Book via the website.

Basildon Park

Fantastic Flowers Summer Trail – 1-15 June

Enjoy a new summer trail around the park. The trail costs £2 each (in addition to normal admission charges) and you will receive a prize when you’ve finished.

Jubilee Celebrations: Big Picnic on the Lawn – 2-5 June

Celebrate the Jubilee with a picnic on the lawn at Basildon House. A free event but normal admission charges apply.

The Living Rainforest is based at Hampstead Norreys near Newbury and is open for visits.

Naturally Curious Play

Tuesday 31 May and Friday 3 June 10am & 12.15pm

Woodland based play sessions, normally for children under 5 but during the holidays the sessions are for those aged up to 9. Sessions take place at the YMCA Activity Centre in Padworth. £7 for one child, £12 for two, £14 for three and £16 for four. Advance booking required – book online.

Nature Discovery Centre

Teen Rangers – Saturday 4 June 10.30am-12.30pm
