The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on! Lots of Christmas events are listed on our What’s On section but below is a brief guide to a selection of the festive family events happening in West Berkshire this December.
Hungerford Victorian Extravaganza – 9th December 5pm-9pm
Hungerford’s annual Victorian Extravaganza with fairground rides, music, stalls, Stilt Walkers, Jugglers, Father Christmas, a Grand Parade, fireworks and more!

Meet Father Christmas at The Kennet Centre – 10th and 11th December 10am-4pm
Father Christmas will be parading through Newbury at 10am on 10th December. The parade will go down Northbrook Street, into the Market Place and then into the Kennet Centre. Father Christmas will be meeting children from 11am on the Saturday and the Sunday. There will be free entertainment, free face painting and a free gift for each child under 10 (be prepared to expect queues!).

Santa Cruises on the Jubilee & Rose of Hungerford Narrowboats – 17th-24th December
A narrowboat trip on the Jubilee leaves from Newbury Wharf and journeys to ‘Greenhamland.’ The journey lasts one hour and children will be able to listen to a story, join in with some singing and they will receive a present from Father Christmas. Adults will also be able to have some mulled wine or a hot drink and a mince pie. Tickets cost £8 and need to be bought in advance, they will be unavailable to purchase on the day. The trips run every day from 17th to 23rd December departing at 12pm and 2pm.

Huntley’s Family Christmas Concerts – 19th December 10.30am at St George the Martyr Church, Newbury and 2.45pm at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Goring-on-Thames
Family Christmas concerts from the Palmer Ensemble. Take your teddy and wear your Christmas jumper. The Newbury concert starts at 11am and doors open at 10.30am. The Goring-on-Thames concert starts at 3pm with doors opening at 2.45pm. Tickets cost £9 for adults and £5 for children, under 1s are free. Tickets can be bought online or at the door. Christmas Craft Workshop at Newbury Library – 21st December 2pm-4pm
A free drop in Christmas craft workshop for children over 5. They will have the chance to make a lantern, a snowflake or a 3D Christmas card. For more information, email library@westberks.gov.uk.
